CONSTRUCTION TECH

Construction project management solution aimed at SMB construction firms.

Project TL;DR

Contributed as Front-end developer and Designer using Figma and NextJS. To deliver to client in the desired time frame we used Vercel, Mantine, and Feather Icons to meet requirements.

Problem

In the construction industry, the majority of platforms are tailored to large organizations with multi-million dollar projects. Our mission is to disrupt this norm by streamlining solutions for small businesses comprising 3-12 team members, handling approximately 8 projects annually, and requiring minimal technological complexity.

Ideation

Initial layout

The original design we received (top) included certain sample elements that we retained. However, we strategically repositioned them (bottom) into a side panel for enhanced accessibility to the end user. Additionally, based on valuable feedback from the initial design, we organized the options into distinct categories, aligning them into user-friendly buckets.

Prototyping

Our project segment revolved around the fundamental aspects of user interaction: adding a project, customer, and initiating the project. To maintain visual consistency, we adopted a 4-point grid system for styling and spacing across the entire application. For layout structuring, we employed an 8-column layout approach

Information Architecture

Played an integral role in the project by focusing on the crucial tasks of simplifying and refining the information architecture. Through careful analysis and strategic ideation, I collaborated with the team to create a more intuitive and streamlined structure for the application's information flow. By optimizing the way data and content were organized, categorized, and presented, we aimed to enhance user understanding and navigation. This effort not only improved the overall user experience but also laid the foundation for a more efficient and user-centric application

Time constraints

To meet our timeline objectives, we adopted Mantine as our designated design system. This strategic choice alleviated decision fatigue during the platform's development phase, allowing us to swiftly and effectively build within our specified timeframe

Outcomes

Engaged in a time-sensitive 6-week contract, our mission was to conceptualize an initial design and swiftly deploy the front-end for user testing. Leveraging Mantine, we rapidly developed a functional page to meet the client's needs. A central element of our endeavor was enhancing the usability of the unique card structure, a feature the founder believes sets our solution apart from other tools in the construction management market. With the product now in the hands of approximately 100 test users, we eagerly anticipate gathering valuable insights to further refine and optimize its user experience.
